Oonagh and Chris met in a club when they were 18, where Oonagh chased Chris up the stairs “to snog him” before ignoring him for the rest of the night. Playing hard to get (after the kiss!) must have worked because it led to their gorgeous winter wedding at Holmes Mill!
Proposal
How did you meet? How, where and how was the marriage proposal?
We met when we were 18 in a club, I chased Chris up the stairs to snog him, then ignored him for the rest of the night. We got engaged in a lodge in York. We were there for my 30th birthday. Chris surprised me with my best friend and her husband being there. Shortly after arriving my best friend took me to get something out of the car and for a look round. When we came back there were balloons and candles and our daughter and 3 month old son had t-shirts saying “Mummy will you marry Daddy?”
Venue
What made you choose Holmes Mill?
We instantly fell in love with it. I saw it on my friend’s wedding photographer’s Instagram. Saw there was a wedding fair the following weekend. As soon as we walked into the room we knew that was it. We just love the character of the room and how unique it is. It’s just beautiful.
Theme
Did you have a theme for your wedding?
Because the venue is so beautiful and there is so much to look at I didn’t want to distract from that. I just wanted it to be modern, simple and fresh looking. So bridesmaids were in white outfits, they picked their own, so they all felt comfortable and weren’t in the same dress that might not have suited each of them and their style. We had green foliage bouquets and table runners and garland from the ceiling hanging over the top table. Black and Perspex accessories and lots of candles and foliage.
Ceremony
What did you walk down the aisle to?
Marry Me - Train
Food
How was your Wedding Breakfast?
We had Pie, mash, mushy peas & gravy with sticky toffee pudding to follow. We chose this because, firstly the pie is UNREAL! But also because it was a winter wedding and we knew a big party after we wanted to give people some stodge and a winter warmer to line everyone’s stomachs.
Entertainment
Tell us about your entertainment?
We had a DJ & Sax player from Jonny Ross music. Sax was Nick Baya, together with the DJ they were absolutely amazing everyone loved them.
Photography
Your photos are amazing, who was your photographer?
We had the McHendry’s they are literally the coolest couple we’ve ever met. They were so friendly we felt like we’d always known them and they made us feel so comfortable. Their photography and videography is just beautiful and natural not forced posed pictures.
Wedding Coordinator
How did you find your Wedding Coordinator?
Amazing! Emily was just fantastic and nothing we asked was too much. She was really easy to talk to, offered great alternatives and very efficient. The coordinator we had on the day (who’s name I can’t remember – I’m so sorry) was so amazing! She was so lovely, worked so hard, really easy to talk to and defo put me at ease in the morning before the wedding.
Planning
Did anyone in particular bring your wedding to life?
We did it mainly ourselves, with some help from my bridesmaids. CarriAnn, the room dresser and Sam from Wildfire Floral Co just brought my vision to life, in fact they made it better than my vision and made it become a Pinterest mood board.
Extras
Tell us about the little things that made your wedding personal?
We made our own name place cards and wanted to write all our guests a little message with our fave memory or jokes and to thank them personally for coming. We also had an extra big top table with the majority of our bridal party and family sat with us.
