Duck pin bowling at Holmes Mill
Let's Get Ready to Roll
We’ve written a set of rules for you to familiarise yourself with before you head to the lanes with your friends and family! We can’t wait to welcome you!
There are 10 frames in each standard game of Duckpin Bowling. Each frame allows the bowler to throw the ball up to three times in order to try and knock down the 10 pins. The maximum score for Duck Pin Bowling is 300.
In your three throws, if you knock less than 10 pins down, this is your score for this frame.
If you knock all 10 pins down on your first bowl, this is a STRIKE. You can also still take your next two throws too! So you can earn a maximum of 30 points in one frame.
If you knock all 10 pins down after your first, and on your second bowl, this is a SPARE. This means you earn 10 points and get to take your third and final bowl too. You can score up to a maximum of 20 points in one frame.
If all 10 pins are knocked down after the third ball has been thrown then this is scored as 10 points.
The aim of the game is to get a Strike on your first bowl to win maximum points per frame!
The bowler’s final score is the sum of the points earned over 10 frames. A spare or strike in the tenth, and final, frame earns one or two rolls respectively.
The maximum score is 300.
